At Bathhouse, we are proud of our state-of-the-art facility and love to nerd out over our engineering and systems. Here's a BTS look at the process that keeps our pools clean and running smoothly.
Continuous Flow
Technically, our pools are “spas,” meaning that they have a higher standard of safety and cleanliness than regular pools. Water in each pool is circulating continuously and the entire volume of each pool is run through filtration every 30 minutes. And we mean every drop of water. Contrasted with a regular pool, in which the water is only filtered every 2 to 6 hours.
Advanced Chemical Controllers
Each pool has a series of equipment in a nearby pump room and is controlled by a computerized system. This system has probes in the water that continuously measure both the Ph and chlorine levels in real time, 24/7. The system automates the control of acid feeders, CO2 injectors, and erosion-fed chlorinators to keep the pool balanced instantly so that the levels never fall out of range.
Manual Checks Logged & Recorded
In addition to the automated system, our team of Certified Pool Operators check the chemistry by hand several times a day and log the results. This is done as a verification step and the logs are kept on a 6-month rolling basis.
Dual Filtration and UV Treatment
As the water is flowing through our system, Bathhouse utilizes a dual filtration system. First the water flows through a sand filter, which looks like a large tank the size of a minivan. Inside the tank are many layers of fine sand and gravel which filter out all of the particles that may be in the water. The next step is flowing through an Ultra Violet light filter which uses high-intensity UV light to kill any microbes and eradicate dead chloramines. UV light filters are not required by the Department of Health to operate a pool. Many pool operators do not use them because they are expensive. However, we use these filters on every pool so the water can be as pristine as possible.
Thermal Conditioning
After filtration the water is chemically treated as described above for Ph and chlorine levels and then runs through either a chiller or heat exchanger to be conditioned for the right temperature. Cold pools go through chillers and hot or warm pools go through heat exchangers. The temperature controls are also fully automated, utilizing digital aquastats that continually read the temperature of the pool water and automatically increase or restrict flow through the chillers and heat exchangers.
The Cycle Continues
After being conditioned for temperature the water returns to the pool and cycles through this process again.
Over 1,000 gallons of water per minute are circulated and filtered at each Bathhouse location, totaling more than 3 million gallons of clean water processed every day across our 13 pools.
